Now You Can Share PDF Files On WhatsApp For Android

WhatsApp which is the most widely used instant messaging application across the platforms is now supporting PDF file sharing on its Android platform. Yes, you just read the sentence right.

I observed this feature in the morning today after an update of WhatsApp beta version 2.12.493 from the Play Store. I have explained below how this feature works and how you can share PDF files to your contacts, groups or broadcast lists.

WhatsApp version 493 supports PDF files sharing

Touch the attachment button (pin shaped icon) on top right corner and we can see there a new option “Document”. Earlier there were also 6 buttons but now Video option has been removed and Document option is added. Now, we can attach videos by selecting Gallery button.

There are two more buttons available in the top right corner, one to search any specific file and other to sort the files by name or by date.

Similarly, the PDF files can be shared in a group or with a broadcast list but there is a condition, all the users should be on that version of WhatsApp which supports Document. I tried to share with one group and one broadcast list and got the below errors.

The similar message will appear if you try to send PDF file to a broadcast list and if that has users with older versions.

You can download this version of WhatsApp from the download section of the official website of WhatsApp or from the Google Play Store if you are a beta tester. Though the official website shows the Version 2.12.489 but from the Play Store you can get the version shown above in the first screen. Till now only PDF files can be shared using Document feature aword, excel and powerpoint files but it throws an error that the file format is not supported.

Please let me know in the comments if you are able to use this feature on your phone and how do you feel about it.
